Examination performance depends on many factors, including individual preparation, clinical experience, and the content of the examination on the day, which we cannot predict or control.
Guideline currency and source selection
Practice questions and explanations reflect Australian clinical guidelines as at the date each question was written. Clinical guidelines change. Drug indications, dosing, and PBS listings change. Vaccination schedules change. Where a question cites a guideline, candidates should verify the current version of that guideline before applying any clinical information in practice.
Where multiple Australian guidelines address the same clinical question — for example, when the RACGP, eTG, specialist college guidelines, or condition-specific bodies recommend different approaches — the answer reflects the source selected by the question writer as most appropriate for the RACGP examination context. This selection may differ from the guideline a practitioner would choose in their own clinical practice, and reasonable clinicians may reach different conclusions on the basis of different sources. Candidates should treat the cited guideline as the basis for the practice question’s correct answer, not as the definitive recommendation for clinical care.
Practice questions are written to test the knowledge most likely to be assessed by the RACGP examinations. The “correct” answer in a practice question reflects the question writer’s judgement about what the exam is likely to reward, which may not match the answer a clinician would give a real patient in clinical practice.
We aim to update content when major guideline changes occur but do not warrant that every question reflects the most current version of every cited source at the time you access it.
Errors and feedback
Despite careful review, errors may occur. If you believe a question contains a clinical error, an outdated recommendation, or a factual mistake, please report it to support@focusgp.com.au. We will review reported errors and correct them where appropriate.
